Where the Wild Things Are

Alexandra Valenti is a photographer with an eye for the raw and rugged. Her fashion photography and chosen models are an indication of the truth that there is beauty in difference, and beauty in strangeness. The locations she chooses to shoot in are anywhere from farms and secret woods areas that look abandoned, castles, the desert; anywhere with baren landscapes and a sense of magical realism seems the perfect place for an Alexandra Valenti shoot. Ever since I came across a few of her photos I have not been able to stop looking. Her models are raw and real, tattooed, and while very beautiful, not at all your typical white washed version of a pretty model. The colors are hauntingly vibrant, or faded and seedy black and whites. Her photographs make you feel as if you have stepped into a midsummer's night dream and are running around with fairy nymphs and other beautiful, wild creatures.

The Queen of Cool

Laura-May Gibbs, Insight brand designer, is the perfect offbeat girl. Her personal style is emulative of her designs, boyish enough to be able to hang low and get rough with the guys, and feminine enough to be the definition of an 'It Girl'. Both beautiful and gritty. Not to mention her place of residence is a to die for pad of earthy, bohemian, and free spirited decor. I own one insight bikini and if it were socially acceptable to wear bathing suits at all times, I just might live in it. Laura-May's designs and life in general speak to the unconventional young thang. Laura-May is definitely the queen of all that is purely cool.

4th of July is definitely up there in the top holidays in my opinion. For one, it comes at the perfect time. The middle of the summer, everyone is ready to go wild, and what better way to celebrate the birth of a country than to let loose and really let the crazy fly? There are fireworks, food, heat, and best of all: red, white, and blue. American flag inspired clothing has been extremely in this summer season, making this 4th of July especially exciting. I put together my outfit and spent the afternoon and evening partyin and celebratin the right way in the back yard. Here's my take on the America trend and what I wore/did on the glorious day. Not sure if our forefathers would be proud...but hey, at least we're all having fun.

Beat the Heat

FINALLY, internet. That is what I have to say, considering the power has been out in my summer Virginia home for the past 3 days. You would think that what is apparently one of the wealthiest counties in America would have their electricity systems figured out well enough to get the power back up and running in a timely manner, but I guess they figure everyone can afford to stay in a hotel for a week or so, leaving me in a wretched 100 degree house with a few bags of stale chips to live off of. At least I am always at work, which is air conditioned, has internet, and on Mondays we're closed, so I just answer the phone, sit on my laptop, and play Snoop Dogg over the speakers. It's a pretty ideal situation overall.

Anyways, life has been full of heat. All I've really done in the past few days is sweat, work, bleed (just kidding..kinda) eat, live through vicious storms, and sit in darkness in the power outage. So here are some looks that have helped me beat the heat and some stuff I've done meanwhile to cope with it...

Lunch with Henry. Rockin the braids to keep cool.

Henry looking fantastic per usual.

This is definitely my ideal summer outfit for right now. No top (too hot), shorts, and bones. Yes yes yes.

Beat da Heat #1

And finally, a typical heat rejecting summer outfit for me. Loose, light material maxi dress, definitely worn without bra or underwear for optimum heat rejecting purposes. Gladiators, round rimmed sunglasses, nifty earrings, large backpack to carry around my laptop and belongings that do not work without electricity, and of course, my summer fave: orange tinted lipstick.

Alright yalll more to come very soon.

They say some people have it, and some people don't.  I, on the other hand like to think that everyone has somewhat of their own "style bone" even if it really is buried bone deep. Now when I say style I am not just referring to the types of clothing someone wears and how they put it all together, but their all around style. The way they speak, the way they walk, the way they think, their ideas and desires, what they spend their day doing, the books they read, the art they like, the music they listen to. All of these things and more, bundled and packaged together create a person's unique style.

So, if I continue with this blog, which I actually should this time considering it's probably the 5th I've begun and not taken anywhere, it will be filled with my own personal style, my inspirations, and daily adventures (in the hopeful instance that I will have some and not just continue laying in the sun all day).

Let the bloggin adventure commence!
